ING and Emigrant Direct

My money is sitting around in a savings account and checking account at a brick and mortar and making squat. I have a very modest 401(k) from my first year of in a 'real' job, but I haven't done any specific retirement savings since 2003 when I switched to a better paying position that didn't offer a 401(k). Had I been smarter, I would have sought out retirement savings through a bank. Be ye not so stupid.

After reading the forums, I'm a little confused, but it seems like a good way to start is to open an ING account through Jeffery's link and get the $25 bonus (yes, I realize I need to open with $250), and then open an EM account and send Jeffrey 2 ING refferals and get a $20 bonus. Do I understand it correctly that the only way to get the $20 ED (via Jeffrey) bonus is to have ING referrals to donate to Jeffrey?

Once my money is in these accounts, my next goal will be to look into an IRA or some other retirement savings.

Yup that's the only way to get the $20 ED bonus. It's something they're doing on the side, not directly tied to ED but I believe they get a bonus through the link on the site that you use to sign up for ED so they're just trying to pass it on to you. I did it, it was nice and simple. Esp since ED only requires like $1 to open the account. And my ING referrals went really fast too.

I gave my last ING invite to LuckyRobin, who I know started an account. I bet she'll have an ING invite to give to you.

I opened an ED account and didn't like it, the site was slow and i didn't really like the User Interface, and when i've tried to transfer my mere $5 from ED back into my checking account so i can close the ED account , the transfers fail.

I've got an ING account and a E-Savings account from Citibank. I think citi is at 5.00% right now.

Don't be like me and sign up for ING straight, without an invite! That was dumb of me.

If you haven't already, let someone here invite you, if they have a spare invitation. You will get the $25 bonus, but the invitee will get $10.

If you use the savings advice link, you'll still get the $25, but the invitee will get only $5. The invitee has given their invites for Jeffrey to load on the link, and will split the $10 with Jeffrey. His deal isn't bad if you're like me and have no friends

Getting my money out of a 1%-ish account is one of the best things I've done on this site. I had generally been frugal, but learnign about anything related to plans with money was beyond me-I started ED and ING accounts and got my $45 total bonues, and now I get about $60 a month interest instead of $30 every three months!!

Yes, you can links in that thread will get you the $25 bonus - they are "invites" that I placed in the link.
