Celery: Aldi Style

I bought this celery from Aldi exactly one week ago:



Note to self: Aldi's great produce prices probably mean a shorter life once purchased. We were able to eat about half of the $0.99 purchase before it headed south for retirement.

I diced the remaining limp celery to freeze. I can through it in a soup or something.

    A trick I recently learned is to wrap celery in aluminum foil to keep it crisp longer. It really works & you can reuse the foil for the next batch of celery Smile

    Reslicing the bottom and putting the bunch cut end in, in a large glass of tepid water works for me. It does take a while for the turgor to come back.

    I'll just cut the stalks off and submerge them in water for 30 minutes. Celery regains its crunchy hardness.

    I've been hearing great things about a new (?) product called Evert Fresh bags which prolong the shelf life of fresh produce. Haven't tried them myself yet, but they're easily found on the web ---a fru-girl's dream!

    Piggybacking on cherylyates suggestion - I looked at those bags online and they are expensive! If I remember correctly, 8 uses per bag is recommended and then they're trash.

    Instead I found Fresher Longer from sharperimage.com. Not bags but Tupperware-like containers. Through the end of this month you can buy the 12 piece set for $49.99 and they'll throw in the 4 piece for free plus free shipping on orders over $40. If you go through a cash back site and use a cash back credit card, you'll save a little more! At least that's what I did.

    I'm using them right now and yes, they really do work! No more raspberries, blueberries or strawberries going bad on me again!

    I understand that, though Evert-fresh are expensive at the onset, they are also re-usable. I could be wrong....
